A lunchtime lecture by Helen McCarthy, author of The Anime Movie Guide and Hayao Miyazaki: Master of Japanese Animation.

Osamu Tezuka was 17 when the war ended in August 1945. He made his debut as a professional manga artist in January 1946 - and became a superstar a year later with the publication of his first longform comic New Treasure Island (Shin Takarajima). He died in 1989, yet continues to influence the course of modern manga.
Find out how Tezuka helped to drive the postwar revival of manga and the development of the Japanese comic into a global phenomenon.
