The British Museum's Department of Scientific Research will be hosting this one-day symposium featuring the most recent advances in the conservation and scientific investigation of wall paintings.

All submissions within the scope of the conference are welcome, although preference will be given to abstracts covering: innovative conservation treatments for wall paintings (such as laser cleaning, nanomaterials, gels and microemulsions), research on deterioration and preventive measures (effect and control of soluble salts, biodeterioration, environmental monitoring) and the scientific characterisation of condition, materials and techniques (new methods for diagnosis and recording, non-invasive analysis in situ, pigment and dye identification).

The symposium is free of charge thanks to funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, but advance registration through Eventbrite is essential. Registration will open on 15 March until 26 April 2019. For further information or to submit an abstract (max 400 words) please contact  wallpaintings@bm-mellon-symposia.org
