The Edicule, the 'little house', which encloses the rock-cut tomb held to be the place where the body of Jesus was laid after the Crucifixion, was fully restored by the Greek National Technical University of Athens in 2015-17.

As part of this work, the tomb itself was opened over three days in October 2016. Martin Biddle, University of Oxford, will examine the circumstances of the opening and reclosing, the approach adopted, the methods used and the results obtained, including the dates obtained by Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL).
