During Rodin’s late period he began collecting antique art, and he created strange, lumpy, sexualised figures, as a well as works derived from enlargements, fragments and hybrids.

In this lecture, curator, author and former Director of the Whitechapel Gallery Catherine Lampert considers how the artist's understanding – and subversion – of the art of antiquity corresponded to conflicting desires that led to original ideas for displays, including Rodin's plans for ‘temples’ and a bas relief procession within the unrealised La Tour du Travait (1898–1899).
