For one night only, Members are invited to dismiss rationality and indulge themselves in an evening of uninhibited joy and instinct to celebrate the summer months. Looking to the ancient Greek cult of the Bacchae for inspiration, cast off doubt and embrace the madness of the human condition in a special evening of live performance, music and play.

Explore the darkest corners of human nature in a performance of Euripides’ Bacchae, presented by the UCL Classical Drama Society and the Department of Greek and Latin, directed by Emily Louizou in a modern English translation by James Morwood. The performance has been specially adapted for the British Museum.

Unleash your alter ego and create a parallel identity in a paper mask making workshop with designer Georgia Lowe. Dare yourself to take part in a bespoke life drawing experience – pick up materials and abandon your inhibitions with London Drawing, and experience the terrifying sounds of the underworld with music from DJ John Sizzle throughout the evening.

£19 for Members and their guests, if the Member has a guest facility. £25 for any additional non-Member guests.

Ticket includes one performance of the play and entry to all activities. There will be two performances of the play during the evening – please select your timeslot when you purchase your ticket. Ticket holders must be on site at least 5 minutes before their performance begins. Late entry will not be permitted. The performance is 80 minutes long and will be roaming, requiring guests to stand for long periods of time. Please contact the Membership Office on friends@britishmuseum.org or 020 7323 8195 for access requirements and arrangements.
