What's included?

Clayton Mordaunt Cracherode

The Cracherode Circle is named after Clayton Mordaunt Cracherode whose gift to the British Museum, upon his death, was a landmark in the development of the Museum and provided a foundation on which comprehensive schemes of acquisition could be based.

Clayton Mordaunt Cracherode (1730–99) was a learned bibliophile and his collection included not only books, prints and drawings but also coins, medals, and fossils. He was a Trustee of the British Museum from 1784, and a Fellow of both the Royal Society and the Society of Antiquaries.
