The British Museum is a charity that relies on funding from a wide range of sources.

We're sincerely grateful for every gift we receive, whether that's a gift in your will – either a financial contribution or the gift of an object – or a donation in memory. Your legacy will have a lasting impact.

If you're considering remembering the British Museum through a gift in your will or a donation in memory, our legacy manager would be happy to talk to you about how your contribution could benefit the future work of the Museum.

Acceptance in Lieu

The Acceptance in Lieu scheme enables UK taxpayers to transfer important works of art and heritage objects to the nation while settling inheritance tax.

Cultural Gifts Scheme

The Cultural Gifts Scheme enables UK taxpayers to donate pre-eminent works of art and heritage objects to the nation while receiving a tax reduction.

The Museum is committed to caring for the collection. Due to limited space and resources we're unfortunately unable to accept all objects offered to the Museum. Please send more details about your proposed donation, including images and provenance information, to:
