Youthful huntsman; born from the myrrh tree, into which his mother Myrrha (q.v.) had been transformed following a sexual relationship with her own father, Cinyras; much favoured by Aphrodite/Venus (q.v.); he was fatally wounded by a wild boar and, at his death, the goddess transformed him into a flower.
