British classical scholar who directed excavations on Cyprus for the Cyprus Exploration Fund at Marion and Salamis in 1889-90. He spent much of his professional life at Oxford where he was Rector of Lincoln College between 1919 and 1944 (See Obituary in The Times; also Gill 2011, 367-8 and passim).
