Pheidippos (Biographical details)

Pheidippos (painter/draughtsman; Greek; Male; 525 BC - 510 BC; fl.)

Also known as

Athenian red-figure vase-painter who signed a cup in the British Museum 'Pheidippos egrapse' ('painted it'), which was also signed 'Hischylos epoiesen' ('made it'). He appears to have been a companion of the young Epiktetos (q.v.) and seems to have worked exclusively with the potter Hischylos (q.v.). He specialised in decorating cups, usually partly in red-figure and partly in black-figure. Several cups have been attributed to his hand on the basis of style.
