Caspar (biblical figure; Male; fl. 1stC)

Also known as

Caspar; Magi; Three Kings; Three Wise Men

New Testament figure, one of the Magi (q.v.) or three 'Wise Men' from the East, probably astrologers, who are portrayed as Gentiles in the Book of Matthew. They were later supposed to have been three kings named Caspar, Melchior (q.v.) and Balthazar (q.v.) who, with the help of directions from Herod the Great (q.v.), followed a star to the birthplace of Jesus Christ (q.v.) in Bethlehem.
