Biography

Robert Lockhart Hobson (1872-1941) worked at the BM from 1897-1938. He was Keeper of Ceramics and Ethnography from 1921 and Keeper of Oriental Antiquities and Ethnography from 1934-38. He had a first class degree in classics from Cambridge and taught as a schoolmaster for four years before joining the BM. He was an immensely distinguished specialist in Western and Oriental ceramics, and produced two standard catalogues of English pottery and porcelain, as well as Worcester porcelain:
