New Testament figures, the Magi or three 'Wise Men' from the East, probably astrologers, who are portrayed as Gentiles in the Book of Matthew. They were later supposed to have been three kings named Caspar (q.v.), Melchior (q.v.) and Balthazar (q.v.) who followed a star to the birthplace of Jesus Christ (q.v.) in Bethlehem.
