Frédéric Spitzer (Biographical details)

Frédéric Spitzer (collector; French; Male; 1815 - 1890)

Also known as

Spitzer, Frédéric

Spitzer collected art objects of all types and categories, and is thought to have manufactured more. Began his career in London in the 1840s dealing with the Rothschilds, moved to Paris in 1868. 37 items were acquired for the Museum at the Spitzer Sale at Chevallier & Mannheim, Paris, in June 1893. One, a horizontal dial (reg. no. 1893,0616.9), may have been made later than initially indicated. Some objects elsewhere originating from the Spitzer collection have been assigned to the Spitzer workshops in Paris.
