A surgeon with the Hudson Bay Company at the York Factory between 1738 and 1741. Collector of a wooden model cradle from Hudson Bay which came to the Museum as part of the Sloane Bequest in 1753. His name has sometimes been misspelled as "Cotts" in Museum records.
