James Macpherson (author/poet; British; Male; 1736 - 1796)

Scottish poet, best known for "Fingal" (1762) and "Temora" (1763), adapted from early Gaelic ballads, but purporting to be translations of 3rdC manuscipts by the legendary Gaelic poet Ossian. Macpherson published revised editions in 1765 (the "Works of Ossian") and 1773 (the "Poems of Ossian").
