Born in Beirut and lived the first 10 years of his life in Cairo. Completed a BFA from Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge in 1971 and then an MFA from Yale University in 1973. His works take inspiration from nature as well as Islamic art, particularly its geometric patterns. His works can be found in the collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the High Museum in Atlanta. In July 2013, was awarded the honour of the National Order of the Cedar, for services to Lebanese culture.
