Born in Otawara city, Tochigi prefecture. Fujinuma started to work with bamboo in 1975, and apprenticed with the well-known bamboo artist Yagisawa Keizō (1926-2005). Received the Tokyo Governor’s prize at the 39th Traditional Art Crafts Exhibition in 1992. In 2004, Fujinuma was awarded a Medal with Purple Ribbon (by the Japanese government.)
