Biography

Daughter of Alexander Duff, 1st Duke of Fife, and Princess Louise of Wales; given the title Princess in 1905 by her grand-father Edward VII; succeeded to her father's dukedom after his death in 1912, becoming Duchess of Fife and Countess of Macduff in her own right. In 1913 married Prince Arthur of Connaught (q.v.). During the First World War served as a nurse at St Mary's Hospital, Paddington; in 1920 accompanied her husband to South Africa when he was appointed Governor General.
