Lecturer in Near Eastern archaeology at University College London, specialising in ivories from the Assyrian capital at Nimrud. After initially working in the Foreign Office she researched Sasanian rock reliefs in Iran and later submitted a DPhil on third millennium lapis trade from Afghanistan. Later jointly directed British Museum-supported excavations at Merv with Kakamurad Kurbansakhatov (q.v.) and St John Simpson (q.v.). Married to Luke Herrmann (q.v.).
