The artist,Jani son of Bahram, calls himself 'Farangi Saz', that is a painter in the European style. He worked for Dr.Kaempfer in Isfahan, filling about forty-five pages of a sketch-book for him in 1096/ 1684-5. Jani invariably includes shading on the ground around figures and makes various attempts at modelling.
There is a divan of Shaykh Ibrahim ibn Muhammad al-Julshani in the Egyption National Library Cairo containing pictures painted by the artist.
