The illuminator of the border, Razi Taliqani, was one of the Qajar illuminators and painters having a workshop in Majma‘ al-Sanayi‘ almasyeh Nasiri in Tehran. It is known from his signed works that he was active during the reign of Nasir al-Din Shah and later Muzafar al-din Shah’s rule by 1322 A.H (1904-5). His signatures sometimes bears the title Sani‘ Humayun. Apart from the album pages he has illuminated two ornate tables one in Gulistan palace and the other for Mirza ‘Ali As‘ar Khan Atabak as well as some lacquer pen boxes.
