Thomas Bewick (printmaker; painter/draughtsman; British; Male; 1753 - 1828)

Wood engraver; apprenticed to Newcastle engraver Ralph Beilby, 1767-1774, and worked in partnership with him between 1777-1797; in partnership with his son Robert Elliott Bewick (q.v.) from 1812. His daughter Isabella presented a large collection of drawings and proofs to the Museum in 1882; at some point these were numbered and those numbers have been entered on the database as "I.B.xxxx".
