Biography

Prints and drawings collector, amateur artist. Presented shortly before his death a group of important works to P&D including superb watercolours by Thomas Girtin (q.v.) (see 1855,0214.1 to 95), as well as various antiquities; and a much larger group of prints and drawings to the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. A posthumous sale was held at Christie's on 14 March 1856.
