Also known as

H L Florence Fund; Florence Fund; Florence, Henry Louis

The legacy of Henry Louis Florence (1843/4-1916) was assigned to the Department of P&D in 1919. The money is invested, and the income has been used for acquisitions, initially of French prints and drawings, but from October 1932 of western prints and drawings of all kinds (see Hind's report 3 October 1932). Through the 1920s and 1930s it yielded about £100 pa, and during the Depression was the main source of purchase funds for P&D. Florence was a well-known collector who also left bequests to the National Gallery and V & A.
