Biography

1916, succeeded to the titles of her brother, Auberon Thomas Herbert, 9th Baron Lucas of Crudwell and 5th Lord Dingwall (q.v.); the titles descending in the female as well as the male line. In 1917 married Lt-Col Howard Lister Cooper.
Inherited the collection of prints and drawings kept at Wrest Park, Bedfordshire, which was begun by the Amabel Hume-Campbell, Countess de Grey before being expanded by her nephew Thomas Philip Robinson, 2nd Earl de Grey (qq.v.). Lady Lucas gave 4651 prints and drawings to the BM in 1917 in memory of her brother Auberon Thomas Herbert, Baron Lucas (see 1917-12-8-1 to 4651). Each has a special stamp added by the BM (Lugt 1696). On the collection see the report to the Trustees by Dodgson, 4.xii.1917. Lady Lucas retained an important specimen collection on the history of printmaking, many mezzotints and stipples, and an album of fine drawings.
Prints and drawings from the Wrest Park collection subsequently appeared in the following sales at Sotheby's: 3 and 7-9 May 1918; 31 March 1919; 8 Nov + 7 Dec 1922; 29 June 1926. Other odd lots were sold over later years in sales at Sotheby's. The BM acquired some further prints from Wrest Park: see 1922,0410.251 to 314, and 1936,0810.1 to 36.
