Wine merchant who collected Italian and Japanese bronzes, and Italian and Persian faience, as well as drawings. Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries. He owned nearly 80 Gainsborough drawings and created a fine collection of his prints presented in 1913 to the Berlin Kupferstichkabinett. He presented a number of items to several different departments in the BM between 1889 and 1914. The remainder of his collection was sold at Christie's, 15th June 1917. There is a typescript catalogue of his collection in the Rare Books, Yale Center for British Art (1915, Folio A N 96).
