Biography

Painter, publisher, dealer, restorer, printmaker and collector, especially of Rembrandt's etchings. To Rome 1725-1727. Joined Knapton in print publishing in the 1730s. Restored wall paintings for the trustees of the new British Museum at Montagu House in the years immediately before his death in 1758.
Most of his plates were acquired by Boydell, who re-issued them in 1774.
