Customs official; collector of master drawings and scholar. Author and publisher of 'A collection of prints in imitation of drawings', 2 vols 1778, containing numerous facsimiles of drawings in British collections, and the best art-historical text yet written in Britain.
The remains of his collection are in the Cottonian Collection, now in the Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery.
