Major dealer and in coins, drawings and prints, as well as manuscripts and autographs. Occasional print publisher as a spin-off. Began life in a different profession, and entered the trade through his marriage in 1770 to Mary Snelling, daughter of Thomas Snelling (qv). After her death remarried to Elizabeth Flack. Became the biggest dealer of the day in London, and the main supplier and agent for Cracherode. One of his executors was William Esdaile.
