The artist is known as a specialist in grisaille paintings and there are a small number of monochrome drawings by him which support the attribution of the present work as an example by his hand, such as the 'Christ washing the Feet' in the Louvre (32840) and a 'Trinity' sold by the Prouté (1990 catalogue, no. 21).
