  • Curator's comments

    Although it was published nearly a year after the royal marriage, this image perpetuates a common error in showing Queen Victoria and Prince Albert wearing their Order of the Garter sashes. The Prince was invested as a Garter Knight in Germany shortly before his departure for London on 23 January, 1840. For the ceremony both wore Garter insignia, the Queen in a small Collar of the Garter, the Prince in the Collar and the diamond-studded Garter given him by the Queen on 9 February
