  • Curator's comments

    Crabbe was born in a house on the south side of Aldeburgh near Slaughden Quay, Sussex, which was later destroyed in a storm. His father was a customs official who owned interest in a fishing boat. (see DNB)
    The Museum also holds an edition of 'The life of the Rev. George Crabbe, LL.B.' by his son, new edition (London, 1838), in which this plate is included without volume title, title or imprint, opposite p.4; see also 1896,1230.177, 1872,0413.344.
