Peretti conceived the teardrop-shaped stem to allow the pieces to be hung on a hook or peg, to encourage people to use their silver instead of keeping it in a drawer. She based it on traditional wooden spoons which would be hung up in a farm kitchen. Peretti also designed a rack with pegs on which to hang the 'Padova' range. For further items form the 'Padova' range, see J. Stern, 'Modernism in American Silver, exhibition catalogue, Dallas Museum of Art 2005, p. 303, fig. 16.4.
Peretti met Francesco Calegaro in the early 1980s.
