    Gouache painting on paper. Viṣṇu in the form of Buddha, the ninth avatar of the god. Seated in the centre of the composition within a small shrine positioned on a terrace, the ground is covered in a detailed floral-patterned textile of pink and green. Two cows are positioned in the foreground, and an attendant is positioned on their side of the shrine, each holding flywhisks.

    The architectural backdrop of 1940,0713,0.28, including the section inlaid with coloured marble, suggests a provenance in the Deccan not far removed from Rajasthan. The same can be applied to the other paintings in this series.
