  • Curator's comments

This portrait, which would have been included in an album, depicts Akbar as a man of action. Akbar, who in his reign untied all of northern India, is depcited here on a falconing expedition with a drum at the horse's neck and glove tucked in his sash. The artist, Sharif, was the son of Abd al-Samad, one of the Persian artists responsible for founding the Mughal school of painting.
