  • Curator's comments

From 'The Houghton Gallery', see 2005,U.109 for comment.
According to Wessely, confusion over the inscription sometimes led to the print being referred to as Sara bringing Abigail to Abraham, or Abraham and Hagar.
After the 1699 painting by Adriaen van der Werff 'Sarah leading Hagar to Abraham' in the Staatsgalerie, Schleißheim; see Barbara Gaehtgens, 'Adriaen van der Werff 1659-1722', Munich, 1987, cat.no.51.
