        Lettered "IESUS CRUCIFIXUS". In one line "Venerunt milites ... sanguis et aqua. Ioan.19.". In lower left corner "P.P. Rubens pinxit" and at right "B. à Bolswert sculp. et excudit". With the privilege in lower centre.
  • Curator's comments

    After the altarpiece painted for the Recollects Church in Antwerp in 1619-20 (now in the Antwerp Gallery). A modello made for the engraving is in the BM (1994,0514.39; see J. Rowlands, 'Rubens: Drawings and Sketches', British Museum ex. cat. 1977, no.162).
