  • Curator's comments

    Although no original with a similar design by Bosch has survived, it is reasonable to assume that either a painting or drawing by him served as a prototype for the present engraving; see M. Friedländer, 'Altniederländische Malerei V: Geertgen van Haarlem und Hieronymus Bosch', Berlin, 1927, p.129b.
