        Schongauer's monogram "M + S" is stamped onto the plate at the lower margin, probably by a previous owner.

    The engraving is part of a series of alphabet letters with figures, which covers 23 sheets (Lehrs Nos. 283-305). L Nos. 284-8, 290, 294, 298-9, 303 are extant at the BM.
