Handle or rim sherd of Attic, probably black-figured, pottery vessel, probably an amphora, with part of attachment to neck or handle; curving surfaces glazed shiny black; flat surface reserved with ivy wreath with alternating added red and black leaves; black dots in groups of three between tips of leaves; each leaf attached to central vine by wavy stem.

If the sherd comes from a rim, it might be an unusual olpe with a lip (as British Museum 1849,0620.5, although the lip is narrower and undecorated); the thickness of the sherd is a factor against such an interpretation. The careful ivy leaves are unparallelled among the rare early black-figure volute-kraters.
