The stories of Rome and its vast empire continue to captivate and intrigue people almost 3,000 years after its foundation.

This exhibition brings together more than 200 of the British Museum's most engaging and beautiful Roman objects to tell the story of how Rome grew from a series of small villages to become a mighty empire – the scale of which had never before been witnessed.

The Museum's exceptionally broad collection has enabled the creation of a truly inspiring experience.

Visitors will have the opportunity to explore how the Roman Empire was won and held, witness the grandeur of Rome and also understand and celebrate the rich diversity of its people.
