British Museum Young People's Programme

Recruitment for the 2023 Youth Collective has now concluded.

Once the application deadline has passed, we'll be inviting successful applicants to the next stage. This will involve a group meeting with a few applicants and the Programme Manager, to see how you work in a group setting. You'll be asked a few questions, but it's also your chance to shine and ask us any questions.

From there, we'll choose 15 people to be part of the British Museum's Youth Collective for 2023. 

If you don't get chosen, you're more than welcome to apply again in 2024.

The programme will run from March to the end of November 2023.

We meet weekly on a Wednesday evening, 17.30–19.30. During those meetings you'll meet Museum staff and learn about how the Museum works. There will also be opportunities to connect with wider British Museum activity. These sessions will be optional and offered in addition to the weekly meetings.

You'll also work with the rest of the Youth Collective on co-producing three events with the Museum:

• In late spring, we'll be working on an event as part of exhibition programming.
• In the summer, you'll be able to work on a project for other young people based on the Youth Collective’s own interests. 
• In autumn, we'll be looking at young people and careers/skills.

We know you're busy and while a lot of planning will be done in our meetings, there'll be times when you might need to work on things outside of meetings.

As a member of the Youth Collective you'll get:

• Access behind the scenes at the British Museum.
• Training – this may include specific training for events.
• Support from experienced staff around the Museum.
• Travel to the Museum for meetings between Zones 1–6 reimbursed (you'll just need to give us the receipts).
• Food, snacks and drinks when attending meetings at the Museum.
• Free entry to British Museum exhibitions.
• Signposting to other events and opportunities for young people.
