In some cases the image which is available for free download is not the largest available, and is therefore reduced in quality compared to the previous version of Collection online. This has been fixed 13/05/20 and where the image is good enough quality it will be 2500px along its longest edge.

In some cases the order in which images are displayed has become mixed up and no longer reflects the curator's wishes, or does not follow the logical sequence e.g. illustrated books. This was fixed 18/05/20 and now the image order should be correct. Any errors will be with the source data and should be reported individually through the feedback form for the object.

Old links to terms within authorities are currently not being redirected to the new site. This was fixed on 29th May 2020 and now old links to authorities should now resolve correctly.

This is where the data for an object has more than one way to be classified. The Museum has a 'preferred' term in all cases, but there are some other 'non-preferred' terms which are in general use elsewhere. If you search for this then you don't get results. For example, faience is the non-preferred term for glazed composition but these records are not returned.

It's not yet possible to distinguish between different curator's comments.

Further improvements to the sort order are still required because the sorting filters don't all work as expected, for example, by Museum number. It may not be clear how objects are being sorted. Also, you can sort by criteria which aren't relevant to your results, such as denomination when searching for vases.

If you search for an object using accents, it doesn't return records where the data doesn't have the accent applied, for example, typing Dürer doesn't suggest Albertus Durerus.

Updated on 29th May 2020, we improved the layout of the results screen and the object details. Some changes include: -

• Floating pagination bar on the results so you do not have to scroll to the bottom to advance to the next page
• When you come back to the search results from the object page it remembers where you were
• On the object details page more space has been given to the image and text by reducing the header size
• The Next and Previous buttons are now fixed so it is easier and quicker to scroll through objects

We have also updated some of the font sizes and spacing, which will hopefully to make the text easier to read.

The ability to zoom in on object images is one of the best features of the new Collection online database. It will take us a few more weeks to convert all the images to make them zoomable. Please note, not all images are high enough resolution to convert.

This will be the ability to start your search by looking through the classification and metadata structures for people, objects and places.

All searches are based on an 'and' relationship between your keywords and filters. In the future it will also be possible to search using 'not' and 'or'.

Conservation records are attached to each object. We hope to display the scientific records in future too.

Currently thumbnail images aren't available in the download. This will be added as a user controlled option.

Although not strictly a part of the search functionality, we'll be using the Collection online to generate new pages of objects within the main website, and also to show all objects on display in each gallery.
