Treatment; 20.06.1990; Clean and re-mount.; Stone, Wall Paintings, Mosaics

Description: The surface of the statue was cleaned with a steam cleaner. The object was lifted free from its old base, this expose an old dowel that was removed. The dowel hole was extended and a new 25mm stainless steel dowel was adhered into the hole with polyester resin. The old plaster fillet that had come away when lifting the object was re-shaped and reattached to the object with spots of polyester resin. The slight gap between the object and the base was filled with marble powder, powder pigment and 20% Paraloid B72 in acetone. The fill was painted to match the gallery scheme. The unsightly fill to the neck was re-shaped and any missing areas were filled with marble powder, pigments and 20% Paraloid B72 in acetone. This was colour matched with acrylic paints. *It was noted that a tiny trace of red pigment was observed in the thumb nail of the right proper hand.
