Remove corrosion product on mirror decoration on hat.
Metals
Reason
Permanent Exhibition
Description
The patch of corrosion product was removed (from the side of the mirror) with a scalpel, as far as possible. The colour of this area remains different to the rest of the mirror, so this was muted slightly with powder pigments in 5% Paraloid B72 in 50:50 acetone:IMS. The area was consolidated with 5% Paraloid B72 in 50:50 acetone:IMS. The mirror back had been pierced through at the top to fix it to the hat. This area of the mirror had also corroded, and it seemed that the corrosion product penetrated beyond the surface. This area was consolidated with Paraloid B72, as above, after removing superficial corrosion product.
