Treatment; 1 aug 2022; Stabilise ceramics stored in Basement 62 for storage.; Ceramics & Glass

Description: 1928,1112.1 - Edges where loss to rim had occured were consolidated using 10% Paraloid B72 in acetone. Loose rim fragment was adhered back onto the vessel using Paraloid B72 HMG. Vessel was lightly cleaned using smoke sponge to remove museum dust. 1978,0502.3 - Unstable cracks were consolidated using 10-20% Paraloid B72 in acetone:ims 50:50 to add strength. Surface where there was no pigment was cleaned using smoke sponge to lift museum dirt, areas with pigment that were dusty were gently brushed with a soft sable brush. 1978,0502.3 - object was cleaned using smoke sponge. Area of overpaint around the fill that requried stabilisation was paired back to reveal the edges of the fill. Edges were consolidated using 10-20% Paraloid B72 in acetone:ims 50:50 and the edges were re-touched using Golden acrylic paints. 1814,0704.579 - Vessel was lightly brushed with a soft sable brush. Areas that were stable were cleaned using smoke sponge. All of the historic joins and cracks required consolidation using 10-20% Paraloid B72 in acetone:ims 50:50. Paint was removed from old fills due to the huge scale of overpainting that obscured the actual ceramic, this also allowed for impregnantion of consolidant around the edges of the fills, these were then colour-matched as they were before using Golden acrylic paints. One small fill crumbled and fell out during this process, as the rest of the vessel has been consolidated it was deemed to be strong enough to be stored without a new fill - if object is to go on display/loan this can be reassessed.
