Biography: For history of this soft paste porcelain factory see Dawson 1994 pp. 64-66. The factory was established in 1740 by Claude-Humbert Gérin (1705-50) with the brothers Robert (1709-59) and Gilles (1713-after 1752) Dubois. A wide range of domestic and ornamental wares and figures and groups - painted in a wide range of colours and often marked with interlaced LL which continued to be used at Sèvres - were made there for the shareholders and later for the royal family and high-ranking aristocrats. The crown effectively assumed control in 1751, production moved to a new site at Sevrès in 1756 and in November 1759 the King (Louis XV) took over complete financial responsibility for what had become the Sèvres factory.
