- Biography
- Surgeon and specialist in nervous diseases, pioneer photographer (Secretary of the Royal Photographic Society), and antiquarian. P&D purchased his collection of 208 early mezzotints through W&G Smith in 1838 (1838,0420.1 to 208), and engravings by Claude Mellan in 1851 (1851,1213.440 to 664, including a few more mezzotints). Franks acquired some items from his collection of ceramics, and other antiquities associated with him have also entered the collections.
