Sokra Group

Biography: Group of Etruscan vase painters decorating vessels with superposed colours whose names are not known. The group is called the Sokra Group having been named after 'sokra' written, surprisingly, in Greek letters on the underside of a cup in the Villa Giulia decorated by one of the members of the group. They apparently specialised in painting cups. Many vessels have been attributed to the group on the basis of style.
